Void in the "City of the Saints"

By: C. Dakota

I’ve never seen a city such at this. It seems so dark, without a light. I started to get hungry. I walk in to grab something to eat but when I approach I ask is it open or closed? Again I find myself walking and I stumble across a theater. As I enter the theater I notice the darkness that was outside abounds inside as well. I can hardly see my next step in front of me.

So I go for a drive. Looking down the side roads, I still see darkness prevailing over the light. After a mile or two, I look across the valley created by the bald hills to the south, east, and west. To the north I see the Capitol Hill and the city skyline. I notice scattered lights here and there, but the void in the valley is darkness.

As the sun rises I still feel the eerie darkness. Without a destination, I go for a drive, maybe to see the sites of the city. My journey takes me to Capitol Hill. I look up at the rotunda. How grand it is and yet in its spender I see darkness on the ground. I keep driving try to shake the darkness. I take a right turn; it takes me back towards downtown.

Looking up, I see it again. The complex with the skyscraper or tower, I heard it is for the saints. I glance to the right and I see another complex. This one is 10 acres with a concrete wall with iron gates that serve as entrances to the square. It seems so strange, a definite gloom; a mysterious darkness dominates and protects the square. The square seems to have an old temple and two or three others, but how could a square that is to be sacred and even holy seem so dark and mysterious?

With the darkness surrounding me, with a sense of smothering, I return to my Place of Rest where I can seclude myself from the feeling of darkness. So I remain in the “City of the Saints” where it is dark and gloomy with an eerie presence surrounding this place.

A “City of Saints” built by people that follow an ordinary man, will always remain in a state of darkness.
