Significance of Anointing

Anointing is used either in the form of Oil or Ointment or perfume used for purifying the body, curing sick, preparing the dead for burial,preparing weapons for war, healing the wounds. The Anointing Oil is very sacred and holy because its divinely prescribed. Those who get anointed are protected by God. It can be applied on the head, Face, eyes and feet. The Holy anointing things should be handled with respect as it is very sacred.

Here are some verses from the Holy Bible which speaks about anointing.

Take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on his head. Exodus 29:7

And take some of the blood on the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated. Exodus 29:21

Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil. Exodus 30:25

Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy. Exodus 40:9

Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue for all generations to come Exodus 40:15

Do not leave the entrance to the Tent of Meeting or you will die, because the LORD's anointing oil is on you Leviticus 10:7

Nor leave the sanctuary of his God or desecrate it, because he has been dedicated by the anointing oil of his God. I am the LORD. Leviticus 21:12

You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. Hebrews 1:9

As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit?just as it has taught you, remain in him. 1 John 2:27

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Psalm 23:5

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body. Mark 16:1

Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. James 5:14

They provided them with clothes and sandals, food and drink, and healing balm. 2 Chronicles 28:15

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield. Isaiah 21:5

For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Matthew 26:12

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Revelation 3:18

I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. Daniel 10:3

Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine. Micah 6:15

But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly Matthew 6:17-18

And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy. Exodus 30:29

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. Isaiah 61:1

And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy. Exodus 40:9

Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. Psalms 105:15

And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed, and be guiltless? 1 Samuel 26:9

And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations. Exodus 30:31

From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment. Isaiah 1:6

And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him. Leviticus 8:12
