Pushing Past the Pain

By: Sheri L. Stuart

Pain. Just the mention of the word evokes an uneasy feeling. I don’t know of anyone who likes dealing with any form of pain whether it’s emotional or physical. Disappointments and setbacks can be very painful, but they are all a part of life. We all must endure a little discomfort sometimes. Some people have endured what seemingly is more than their fare share. Six months into this year, I found myself feeling that way. God had given me way too much to handle I cried. “What do I do God now that the job is gone? What do I do now that the relationship has ended and my dreams have been shattered? Why me God?”

I’ve learned that even in the most challenging times, life still offers us choices. We can choose to wallow in despair or endeavor to push past the pain. Getting to the other side where joy and peace abide is a journey but one that’s necessary if we’re going to experience the fullness of God’s blessings. You can be assured too that the enemy of your soul will fight you every step of the way. God tells us so in His Word. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 (KJV).

Whatever your circumstance, trust and know that God is not the orchestrator of life’s disasters. Sometimes God allows painful situations in order to strengthen you. Sometimes that painful situation is an opportunity for you to develop a deeper trust in the One who created you. God isn’t wasting your time. If He allowed this uncomfortable situation to occur in your life, you can be assured that He has a good reason for it

In my case, I know that God is bringing me to higher ground. How could I ever realize the dream of owning my own business if I had been allowed to stay in my corporate job?
Could it be that God has something better for you too? That painful situation may just be God’s way of pruning you and preparing you to receive an even bigger blessing.

But how do I get past the pain you ask? Praying, praising and immersing yourself in God’s Word will never fail you.

I tried it. It works. I know that it is possible to push past the pain.

Selah.
