Peace of God

By: ritamae

Peace, something that people everywhere seek. During this time of year we hear it a lot, see it on cards and other places but how much attention do we give it? Romans 5: 1 says, “ therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ“. When we accepted Jesus by faith our records were wiped clean just as if the sin never existed. When the sin and the guilt of the sin are removed we do have peace. Think about the nights you can not sleep because you are feeling guilty about something and the torment that goes on in your head. But when you get forgiveness for that, think about the peaceful feeling you have. That is what our salvation gives us, peace. The wall that separates us from God has been removed ( Ephesians 2:14) and we now have fellowship with Him. This all comes about because of something He did for us and our acceptance of Him. Romans 14:17 tells us that the kingdom of God is not in what we eat or drink but it is righteousness( being in right standing with God), peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. This is done in an orderly fashion. First comes the right standing and it produces peace and the peace produces joy. Peace is part of the fruit of the Spirit.
There is a beautiful scripture in John 14:27 that says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Romans 8:6 tells us to be carnally( world minded ) is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace, why? When we change our focus to God He will keep us in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). We all know there are many things in this life that will steal our peace, that is why we need to keep our minds fixed on God, He is the peace keeper.
Philippians 4: 6-7 has some instructions about having the peace of God.
Be careful( anxious) for nothing. This one is sometimes very hard to do, it certainly takes keeping our mind on God.
In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Take every care, no matter how large or how small thanking God that he is with you, thanking Him for the things He has already done and for the things He will do.
Verse 7 gives us the results. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
David writes in Psalms 4:8 that he can lay down and sleep in peace because God is keeping him safe. If you and I are in the arms of Jesus, that is knowing Him as Savior, we can lay down and sleep in peace as well because He is the God that never sleeps nor slumbers. Why should both of us stay awake ? I am one that doesn’t sleep much but I have learned when I wake up about 2:30 or so what I need to do. That is my time with God. I read, study, pray, write and just fellowship with Him and if there is any stress and feelings of frustration they are gone because I have gotten my mind on Him and the promises of His Word. Here is a good verse for you of what god thinks about you. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end(Jeremiah 29:11). That is what God thinks about you and He will give you peace, has given you peace and it is entirely up to you whether you receive it or not. I think is very beneficial for a child of God to receive. It is there for our taking. Are you troubled ? Go back and do things listed above and get the peace that God has so freely given you. God bless you!
