Never Alone

By: naomi singer

I was born and raised in India, a land of many religions, where culture and traditions are the most important part of life. Most of the Christian community mix Christianity and traditions, which I believe are two different things. Traditions are man made but Christianity is God made. I was raised in a society where male is dominant, arranged marriages, sexual, mental and spiritual abuse took place but women were supposed to tolerate it and not mention it, all in the name of Christianity and traditions.

I'm reminded of a little girl growing up in India. She seemed very normal from outward appearance; she went to school, spent time with her friends. Went to Church every Sunday with her family, went on family vacations to her grandparents house during summer. Seemed like a normal, happy childhood, yet there was something very different about that little girl. There was ugliness about her life; she was physically, mentally and sexually abused. She was a lost soul. She didn't know much about Jesus, She knew that Jesus was very important person; she knew few bible verses that her parents and Church taught her. Somebody must have told her that she could talk to Jesus about anything. There were days and nights when the abuse took a toll on her. She used to kneel and begged Jesus to rescue her, but in her mind Jesus didn't answer her. She wanted something of Jesus to hold onto, so that she won't feel so alone and the closest thing she could find was her bible. She clung to that bible, she took that bible to bed with her and cry on it. The abuse was destroying her confidence and her self worth. She was always withdrawn and very angry. She wished she was dead. She tried really hard to steal as many happy moments as she could and there weren't many. She really hoped that one day when she was old enough to get married, that she find a nice young man who would really love her, but those dreams were shattered too because it was an arranged marriage and she felt obligated to go through with it, for the family's sake and for her younger sibling's sake. She felt like the more she talked to Jesus, the worse it was getting. She just couldn't understand what was so bad about her and perhaps God was punishing her.
Just before she got married she asked the Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. Although she got saved but there was lot of pain and it seemed like she was trying really hard to please the Lord, like she had to prove something to him and to herself.

Eventually she moved to the U.S. to be with her husband, that didn't go too well and marriage ended up in divorce and from then on her life started spiraling out of control, which followed by bad choices, wrong relationship. She was so lost with no support from the people she loved. She came to a point where she felt; even God had turned his face away from her.

She pleaded God to show his face to her and that was the precise moment she had hit rock bottom and that very moment she felt Jesus' presence, she could feel his warmth and comfort embracing her, she felt his love and compassion. It was the most amazing experience of her life. For two years after that experience, the Lord and she spent a lot of time together; he had weeded out lot of pain, anger, resentments that she was holding in secret places of her heart. It was purification of her heart, her spirit.
After the lord was finished cleaning that part of her life, he sent a wonderful man, who is everything she ever wanted in a man but it took so many years of heartache and pain for her to get to that point, but God was so kind and merciful. He was preparing her for this man, who is now her husband and the father of her handsome son.
What Satan had intended to destroy in her, God turned it into life of redemption, surrender and ultimately a life of victory. She has scars from the wounds that Satan had inflicted, but only as a reminder of God's awesome love, compassion, forgiveness.
If you readers are wondering where is that little girl now? Well, she is the author of this article. Yes, I'm the one who was once in the pit of darkness, completely broken and lost, but because of Jesus, and Jesus alone, I'm not only a survivor but I'm also a victor.
Praise his name. He is not only my God but also my very best friend. I still have that old tear stained bible as constant reminder that I'm never alone. His love, his grace and his spirit will carry me for the rest of my life and through all of eternity.

Amen
