Minding your Mind- Think Like a Thin Person

By: Healthy By Design

‘May all my Thoughts Be Pleasing to Him, for I rejoice in the Lord’~ Psalm 104:34

Researchers tell us that we have @60,000 thoughts a day. How many of your thoughts are focused on your weight? More specifically, how many of your thoughts are focused on negative thoughts about your weight?

For many of us, as soon as our feet hit the floor each morning the assault on ourselves begin. We look in the mirror and think to ourselves how awful we look. Then the abuse continues as we go to the wardrobe and hate the way our clothes fit; then as we walk down the street, we compare ourselves to every woman we see and 99% of the time we never measure up.

The final blow comes when sit down for a meal and get mad at ourselves for our inability to control our eating. We become what we think about all day long and if these are our thoughts then we’re in trouble.

It’s no wonder we struggle with our weight. The bible tell us that our thoughts will determine our actions and our actions will determine our success or our failure. ( Proverbs 23:7).

In John 5:39, we see Jesus rebuking the religious leaders because they were living their lives based on their thoughts. Jesus told them that their thought were all in vein until they allowed the Son of God to change their lives. Like the religious leaders in Jesus’ time, we also fail to go to Jesus to receive the abundant life that he promises us. Instead, we let our thoughts lead our lives.

How can we gain control over our thoughts:

Starting today, begin to journal your thoughts. Depending on your time availability, (try to do it in 15 minute intervals), simply track what you are thinking about? Are you thinking about food, pain, frustration? Is it a positive or negative thought? Would your thoughts be glorifying to God?

At the end of the day, look at your recurring thoughts. Ask God to renew your mind and give you the mind of Christ. Start today by making a list of all of the things that bring you joy and glorify God. When you catch yourself in a negative thought, replace the thought with one of the positive thoughts on your list. This idea comes for Phil. 4:8-9.
