Do away with them

By: Joy

Today’s verse: “…Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Luke 18 v 8b

Bible Reading: Colossians 3 v 5 - 11

Anytime I read our Today’ verse, it is with mixed feeling and doing a lot of quick self -examination. But since all scripture is given to us, we cannot just get comfortable with some and throw out which ever one we feel uncomfortable about. For this reason, I have learnt to let God’s purpose of every jot of His word I come across have it way in me and I accept it as coming from Him. In our Bible reading today, we notice Apostle Paul is writing to the Colossians who he had loved so much and invested time and prayers on. He started out by listing to them the sinful natures they need to do away with and after about two verses, in a loving fatherly/mentor tone he tells them he realizes these are sins committed by the unbelievers and sins they had committed while they were such, as though these sins should not be hear of in their midst at their spiritual level. Right after he says this, he goes ahead to list other sins, this time he stated to them categorically, that they need to keep away from these ex. Anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language, lying. He did not try to give them a pat on the back about being sure these was not in their midst, instead he spoke like he knew that some of them were practicing some, if not all these and he warned them to stop. Beloved as you read this brief write up today, do you consider that these verse are an accusation to you or do you find yourself guilty of any of these sins sometimes.

Hence the question of our Lord Jesus Christ in Luke 18 v 8, when Christ comes back will He find faith in the church? amongst believers?. Think on these folks, if Christ is coming for a spotless (sinless) Bride, some of us might want to begin to think about getting serious about this journey of faith we have embarked on following Jesus and clear away all the deeds of the old man. You see, there is no mid-way, by this I mean, there is no provisions in Heaven for christians who have accepted Christ but yet meddling with small sins. It either we are spotless or no place in Heaven, this is the blunt truth. It is my prayer this day, that as you read this, you will make up you mind if you have accepted Jesus to rid yourself of all that has the old man and rely on the Holy Spirit to help you live a sinless life, and if you ever fall in sin accidentally, you will know to repent immediately.

And perhaps there is someone reading this who has not even surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, believe me when I tell you that your name is not in the Book of Life according to Rev. 21 v 27, Bible tells us that any person’s name which was not found in that book was cast into hell. This is not the will of God for you dear one. The good news is that today, if you will just surrender to Jesus, repent from your sinful ways and accept Him as your Lord and savior and forsake your old life style, your name will automatically be drafted into this book and you will be en route to Heaven too.
