Ask What not Why-- Trusting God for your Weight Release

By: Healthy By Design

If you’ve spent time around a child, chances are that you’ve heard the question “why” many times every day. As adults we can sometimes get caught up in too many of the “whys” of life also – especially those of us who have experienced the frustration of trying to lose weight.

Why does a certain diet work for my friend and not for me? Why is my flesh so weak? Why can my husband eat whatever he wants and I practically have to starve myself to lose just one pound? Why did I inherit these fat genes – it’s not fair!

What can be even more frustrating than these questions is the fact that there will always be many people eager to provide you with answers. Just Google the words “weight loss” and you will receive millions of “solutions” to your problem.

In the book of Job in the Bible, we see a similar situation unfold.
Job, a wealthy and faithful man of God, is faced with a series of seemingly unbearable circumstances. His friends are there, ready to provide the answers, and as many of us have experienced, the friends’ answers are all misguided.
What does God want us to learn from Job that we can apply to our lives?

When we are waiting on God, we should not look at our circumstances – we should look to God.

Instead of asking “why,” ask God, “What is the lesson here?”

Trust that it’s better to know God than to know the answers.
Don’t assume that pain is always punishment.
In the midst of your pain, continue to bless God (Phil 4:6).

God’s ways are higher and better than ours – what might seem unfair in our eyes is always righteous, just and perfect in God’s eyes. Only He can see the whole picture.

God never makes a mistake—especially in creating us. We are made in His image and therefore are perfect.

Action steps to help you focus on God:

Let go of your need to know – once God gives you a path, continue to walk on it (Psalms 142:3).

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you stay focused on your path and not be swayed by others’ opinions.

Limit the influence of fashion magazines, internet searches or the latest fitness craze, because it doesn’t matter what you spend your money on: the principles of weight release will never change – God’s truths are eternal.

Take some time today and ask God what the lesson is, instead of asking Him why.

Pray, do your research, and find out what works best for your body; resist the urge to quit if results aren’t apparent as quickly as you would wish.
Focus on the positive aspects of yourself, and write them down: what you focus on expands (Phil 4:8).
