A perish to worthy

By: Eddie W Habeck III

Success euphorically lifts me
Pride feeds my emotions and might
I was inept of feeling your presence
Truthfully, you weren’t even in my sight

Affluence endows this pleasure
A greed sustains the way
I would have been rather fortunate
Had I found you in this disarray

A minor quandary arises
Yet conceit blankets its tactic
I could have swore I heard you
Whispering amongst the racket

Now fortune is squandered freely
Mind debating if defeat can be found
I recall your idea of yesteryear
Some counsel might be sound

My culture rank implodes further
Materialism invigorates the shame
I further examine your actions
For answers that relieve the pain

The prior world I had is distant
Its grief that controls me now
I’ve burrowed into your ideals
For the way to lift me out

Acceptance comes so slowly
For self-gratification is hard to kill
You stood by me in the darkest
Put all my trust in you, I will

Chaos has changed to calm
Vanquished in all our valor
Knowledge and energy been relearned
Now, I rise amid your power
