A Generation Seeking A Sign

By: J. P.s Inspirations

"And He sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this
generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, there
shall no sign be given unto this generation."
.....Mark 8: 12
******************

I wonder if people today would believe if they were to see the mighty works like our Lord did
when He walked on this earth? Would most still have doubt and disbelief as many did then?
We read of the miracles of our Lord and also of those who continually sought after a sign and did
not believe or understand, even though they had seen the power of God in their midst.
A sign always points the way to God and glorifies Him. The works Jesus did was always
to glorify the Father and witness of His power. Salvation and a changed life by the
power of God is the greatest miracle of all.

Jesus miraculously fed the thousands because of His compassion on the multitude
who had been with him three days with nothing to eat. Many of them had come from
far away, and Jesus knew they would faint on the journey without food for their bodies.
In these verses, we see the Lord cares not only for our spiritual needs, but also desires
to supply physical needs.

After feeding the multitude, Jesus entered into a ship with his disciples and the
Pharisees came forth to question him, seeking of him a sign from heaven and tempting
him. Jesus again rebuked the Pharisees and entered the ship again,
leaving these men behind who sought a sign.

The disciples took no bread with them, neither was there any bread on the ship.
When Jesus charged them saying, "take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees
and of the leaven of Herod," they reasoned among themselves and thought He was speaking
because they had no bread." Jesus told them "they had eyes, but saw not, and had
ears but did not hear." He then asked them if they remembered how he fed the multitude
and had baskets of fragments left over. When they answered, He then asked them
"how is it that ye do not understand?"

In these Scriptures, we see the words of the Pharisees and also the thoughts of the disciples.
Even though Jesus had worked a miracle in their midst, all the people did not understand and
still sought a sign from heaven. They did not realize Jesus was the "Living Bread" or manna
who was sent from heaven. These should have realized the many miracles were a sign from heaven,
and had only been accomplished by the power of God. The Disciples should have also understood
Jesus was speaking spiritually of the sin of the Pharisees, when He used the comparison of
the "leaven" of the Pharisees.

Today's society and generation is the same as that in the days of Jesus. Although they
have the written Word of God and testimony of many witnesses, many will not believe unless
they see a sign. There is lack of perception and hardness of hearts in the lives of many people
because of doubt and unbelief. Many have willful blindness and reject the truth,
as well as dull memory, or forgetfulness of the many blessings of the Lord. This is the
reason why the Bible is not understood today. All the reasons are willful, as people do not have to
doubt, question, harden their hearts, or be dull of hearing and receiving. We are to be ever mindful
of the blessings and promises of our Lord, and receive the Word of the Lord with gladness.

May our hearts always be open to receive revelation knowledge and light of the Lord.
His Spirit is here to guide us into all truths, but we must have a willing heart and be
ready to receive as the Lord teaches us. As we look all around us we see many signs
of the Lord and the wonder of all creation is witness of our Creator and God.
God is still a miracle worker and the signs of His power are all around us.

All along the road of life, people get weary, but we know the greatest sign of
all is found in God's Holy Word. We have a promise of eternal life with the
Lord, if we keep the faith and endure in life's race. Up ahead are the lights
of home, and what is unseen will become a reality.

We must faithfully seek the Savior and as we behold Him, we see the greatest
sign and wonder of all, as proclaimed in God's Holy Word. He is the "Living Word" and
not one jot or tittle shall fail, but shall come to pass just as written. We give thanks
for a God who cannot fail! God's Word is a sign which points to the right path
leading to eternal life. If we follow this sign, we are on the right path. We'll be
safely sheltered in the arms of God. I now God loves for us to come and
talk to Him as we praise Him for His faithfulness. Isn't it great to know He
is always there for us? May the hope of heaven in our hearts grow stronger
with each passing day, as we know what is ahead for the child of God.
